President - Nicole Dvorak
Hi, I’m Nicole and I’m this year’s SABC President.
I started rowing at the start of my DPhil two years ago. After a succesfull first year stroking the novice boat and then rowing for our W1, I captained the women last year. Rowing adds balance to my days working in the lab. I love being out on the water and especially the misty early Oxford mornings! You’ll find me there, with tired eyes and a big smile. |
Secretary - Georgia Cooper
Hi, I’m Georgia and I’m the secretary for the rowing club this year! I’m in my second year studying French and Portuguese, and I started rowing in Hilary term last year. I’d never rowed before, but was convinced by my friends to try it out. Fortunately, I ended up really enjoying it and rowing sessions became something I looked forward to weekly. I’m excited to meet all the new members this year and attend some great socials!

Treasurer - Charlotte Barker
Hi I’m Charlotte and I’m this year’s SABC treasurer. I have just finished my first year studying History and Economics.
I started rowing as a fresher last October, and it’s definitely something I would recommend trying whilst you are at Oxford. Given that the only thing reliable thing about British weather is that it will, at some point, be raining, we did also spend some time off the water this year. This made me appreciate the excellent social side of college rowing even more than I did already. |
Development Officer - Edward Lamb
Women's Co-Captains - Freya Billinghurst and Orly Welch
I'm Freya, a second year law student and your new Women's Co-captain. I took up rowing on a whim in my first term and haven't looked back since. I've always enjoyed sports but rowing is the first one I've felt competitive about and been willing to wake up early for. Being on the river can feel like a refreshing escape from Oxford and helps me structure my time away from endless reading lists. I'm really looking forward to working with Orly and Leo to make next season fun and exciting!

I'm Orly, a second year PPE student and your new Women's Co-Captain, alongside Freya.
I got into rowing in Michaelmas term and have loved every bit of it. This is the first team sport I have been involved in, and I am particularly grateful for how it has helped me on my journey with body positivity and how welcoming the club has been. My highlights have probably been the sunrises, the post-erg endorphin high, and the post-training pancakes! |
Men's Captain - Leo White
I’m Leo, a 3rd year medical student, and I’m the Men’s Captain for this year. I picked up rowing as a fresher 2 years ago and have loved every second. Although the early mornings might seem daunting, being part of the crew and watching it develop over the year is so rewarding, and it really helps to keep me motivated for lectures and essay work. Besides, there’s no better feeling than crashing down the racecourse on Saturday of Eights Week with 8 of your mates! With a strong men’s side returning, I’m hoping to gain some ground in Torpids and Eights and, with the other captains, make SABC a force to be reckoned with. Here’s to a fun and fulfilling year!

Men's Vice Captain - Harvey Randle
Hi, I'm Harvey, I'm a 3rd year chemistry student, and I'm the Men's Vice Captain this year. I've been rowing for 2 years after picking it up in freshers week, as I've been a cyclist all my life and fancied something new. It's been great fun so far, and the early mornings aren't as bad as everyone says. As cold as it can get during winter, getting out on the river on a summer afternoon definitely makes up for it! Here's hoping that we can take the sting out of 2020 with a great new year of rowing!

Captain of Coxes-Joe Gellett
Hi! I’m Joe, a third year chemist, and I’m this years Captain of Coxes.
I have been coxing with Anne’s since my first year and this will be my second year as captain of coxes. Having coxed before coming to Oxford, I really enjoyed being able to continue with such a friendly and welcoming club. For me coxing is a really fun way to be a part of the sport (without having to do as much of the exercise!) so I’m always happy to answer any questions people might have about it. |
Social Secretaries - Grace Glover and Jack Hughes
Hi there! I’m Grace, a second year medic, and one of your new Social Secs for this year! I’ve been part of the Anne’s boat club since Michaelmas and love rowing almost as much as I love a rowing social! We’re planning on a full social calendar this year with plenty of crewdates (a great opportunity to try the variety of £4 wines from Tesco), team brunches (pancakes on a Tuesday are also a strong contender), and hopefully a rowing formal (if Jack and I can work out who in college we have to email). You’ll probably catch me in the new library eating my body weight in biscuits, running through Uni Parks trying to make it to my 9 am on time, and on a Wednesday I can always be found in Park End (fingers crossed it’s back soon!). Feel free to shoot any rowing (or non rowing) questions my way, I love an opportunity to procrastinate :)
*disclaimer: there will be no 6 am starts, rainy outings, or sweaty ergs involved in this year's socials Hi I’m Jack, a second year engineer and one of your social secs for next year. This picture is the closest thing I have to me actually rowing (last year wasn’t the best in terms of outings in actual boats). I haven’t done much rowing but I have been on some socials so thought I could give social sec a go (also, I was coerced into it by this year's other incredible social sec). I can also confirm that it is possible to row without doing early mornings - don’t think I’ve done a single morning training session. I hope you’re all ready for some great socials next term; feel free to ask me any questions about rowing socials (you can ask me about rowing but I probably won’t know the answer). At the end of the day, throwing up in a club is better than throwing up on an erg.
