Meet the members of the St Anne's Boat Club Committee for 2023-2024.
FLICK THROUGH EACH OF THEIR PHOTOS TO GET... LESS FLATTERING ANGLES! |
President - Chloe BlackHeya! I’m Chloe, a finalist in Law, and will be the SABC President for the year. It’s my job to oversee the club and keep it on course for the future years of Anne’s rowing – if you have any questions about sponsorships or large-scale running of the club, feel free to email me! I learned to row in my first year with SABC, and couldn’t be more grateful for all the kindness and support I found within the boat club. It has made my degree so rewarding, and I’m very excited to represent such an amazing group of people!
My favourite thing about SABC is how encouraging it is, and how far I’ve been able to push myself within it (going from knowing nothing about rowing when I joined, to racing against some of the best Oxford college crews!) – I source so much of my motivation from rowing, and love how connected the sport makes me feel to the other people in the boat. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of new faces around the boathouse, and helping the club grow even more in its future years :) |

Secretary - Camila RamosI'm Camila, a now second year DPhil in Geography. After moving quite a lot around the world, I've finally landed in Oxford and couldn't be happier. I began rowing during my time as a student in Boston, and have continued to do so with SABC. I love the friendly spirit of the club, and how there is always a space to take rowing at your own pace. As a DPhil student I value the structure rowing has given me, and also the fun times to decompress from all that research work! I've already made great friends within the boat club and can only hope the same for our future rowers and coxes.
As this year's Secretary I will be working closely with our president and the rest of the committee members to help everyone work in synchrony and get things done 🙂. I'm excited to meet our new fabulous rowers and coxes, see more beautiful sunrises, go for coffee or a pint after outings, and enjoy some delicious BBQs (and probably bring a bit of my Chilean BBQ skills too). |
Treasurer - Katja MichlbauerHi there! I’m Katja (she/her), the SABC treasurer for this year. Very on-theme, I am a second-year MPhil Economics student. I started rowing in Michaelmas 2022 but it feels like I’ve been doing it for years with all the fun we had training and racing!
Staying in the library all day is easy in a place like Oxford but rowing showed me how important it is to get myself out of there, move my body, and enjoy the precious time we have in this beautiful place. I am hyped to meet the new recruits and to help run the SABC this year - yeah Anne’s! |

Women's Co-captains - Kate McLoughlin and Alex AndrewHey! I’m Kate, one of this year’s women's co-captains. I’m in my 3rd year reading Biochemistry, and started rowing when I joined St Anne's. Now that's I’m busy with captaincy, I 'only' row about four times a week, with the rest of my free time going towards my position on the university swimming team! My favourite things about SABC are the socials and crewdates (social meals with wine and games), very much deserved after all the early mornings!
This year, I’m most looking forward to meeting lots of new rowers! |
|
Heya, I’m Alex! I’ll be half of Women’s Co-Captaincy this year which is, of course, incredibly relevant to my Music degree. I started rowing a few weeks into first year and now it’s basically half the reason I’m in Oxford. I love everything from the sunrises to the stash, to racing with an incredible crew (a Div 1 crew might I add…).
On top of that, socials have been a great way of exploring some of the finest scran and booze Oxford has to offer, and I’m grateful to have become part of a club full of such devoted, caring, funny people. I can’t wait to see this year’s novices fall in love with the sport the same way I have, and I look forward to plenty more memorable moments both out on the river and out on the town… |
Men's Captain - Tom LavisHi I’m Tom (he/him)! I’m men’s captain this year and in my second year, studying history. I’ve been rowing since I was 13, and coach in the vacs at a local club. Despite only joining the Anne’s boathouse in Trinity 2023, it has been extremely welcoming, and the friendly atmosphere makes it possible for anyone to find their feet. Rowing provides a great opportunity for structure (as history has very few contact hours) and more importantly, forces me out of bed before 10:00, which can be something of a challenge…
The men’s side is destined for big things this year, and I encourage as many people as possible to give rowing a go, to experience the work of art that is my erg playlist! |

Men's Lower Boats Captain - Sam Davis
|
Heya, I'm Sam, I'm a fourth year at Anne's studying maths and computer science. This year I'm men's lower boats captain for SABC which means my job is to recruit and support the new rowers within the boat club. I only started rowing in October of 2022 but I have loved learning to row here and everybody in the boat club is really lovely. I hope many of you join us in making this year a great year for SABC.

Captain of Coxes - Amy Jenkins
Hello! I’m Amy (she/her) a second-year English student and this year’s Captain of Coxes! A firm believer that “there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats”, I joined SABC in my first term after a lifetime spent on the water doing everything except rowing before falling in love with coxing on a chilly November afternoon. Since then coxing (and occasionally rowing) for Anne's has been one of the most rewarding things about my time at Oxford, and I can’t wait to recruit new rowers and coxes for the next season of bumps racing! If you have any questions about coxing for SABC then do get in touch!

Welfare Officer - Holly BoyleHello! My name is Holly and I am a finalist studying Law with French Law returning to St Anne’s for my final year of studies after a year of living in Paris. This year I am taking on the role of the boat club’s welfare officer, which means I’ll be around for any members of the club to voice any worries or concerns they have regarding their own relationship with rowing or regarding any wider club issues. I’ll also be around to have chill chats and cups of tea if anyone just needs a debrief or a moment of calm amongst the craziness of Oxford - the most important thing for me and the committee as a whole is that every single member feels comfortable, safe and validated in their SABC voice. I started rowing in Trinity 2021 and coxing in Hilary 2022 and it has not only given me a great outlet for any law-induced stress but I have also met some of my closest friends through the boat club. I’m really looking forward to coming home, seeing all the returning members and most importantly recruiting new faces to join in the fun!

Social Secretaries - Hazel Bott and Emily PatersonHey, I’m Hazel - a 3rd year biomedical scientist and this year’s social sec, alongside Emily! Having rowed a little before uni, I joined SABC at the start of my first year and have never looked back :)) I love SABC and all the people that make it and can’t wait to celebrate our success with a load of socials next year!
|
|
Hey, I’m Emily! I’m a second year medic and so excited to be a social sec with Hazel this year (who I’ve never seen do a shoe??!!) . We’ve got big plans to ensure SABC is the most fun club on the water!! Shamelessly voted as ‘only rows for the socials’, I’m a big fan of the weeks when I have more crewdates than tutes. I look forward to creating a welcoming environment of wonderful chaos and can’t wait to welcome fresh faces to the club. SABC love x

Development and 'Stash' Officer - Guy RudmanHeyyyy! My name is Guy and I’m proud to be serving a second term as Dev & Stash Officer for the boat club. A refugee of the now-bankrupt St Benet’s Hall, I am determined to promote the longevity of our noble boat club with development work, and in the meantime keep everybody tied to the club with a mountain of stash! As a PPE finalist, there will be no danger of my having any work to get in the way of my goals, and you (yes you, alumnae) will receive a non-stop barrage of emails, newsletters, and events information! My role on the water is primarily cox for the W1, M1, and really anybody who asks nicely and/or slips a brown envelope under the table (again, looking at YOU ALUMNAE), but I have also put myself to use subbing into boats as a rower, my splits putting my fellows’ to shame. I look forward to leaving my mark, for better or for worse, on the boat club in my last year as an undergraduate!
